The Iris Professional Photography Awards are organised by the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and supported by major sponsor NIKON. These annual awards, open to all New Zealand and International professional photographers, have been running for more than 35 years. The Awards celebrate the innovation and excellence of professional photography today, providing a platform for recognition within the wider photographic community and with the general public.
Joanna Piatek, the photographer and creator of the concept for the Kāpiti book, says, 'I can't begin to express how extremely happy and proud I am with this... Entering awards is not something that sits well with me. This is my first entry to Iris and "The Book" has won a silver award in a forum I hold very highly - NZIPP. I approached producing the book to create a photographic experience of Kāpiti through some of its foodies. I could not have done this without Michelle Lovi – the publisher at Odyssey Books – who was my collaborator in producing the book.'
Book description: Kāpiti: a portrait through food – is just that. Take this photographic journey with us, from Paekakariki to Ōtaki. Visit the local foodies who serve us with smiles and scrumptious food and drink while telling their story of 'Why Kāpiti?' This is a selection of what is available on our Coast, told through photography and recipes shared.
The authors: Joanna Piatek was born in Sweden and came to New Zealand as a young adult. She is a photographer and journalist with the ability to tell a visual story. www.byfriday.co.nz
